Mr. Pradeep Chakraborty, Programme Manager, CBM India addresses the gathering

On 9th & 10th of December 2013, CBM India organised a two day workshop on Internal Learning and Monitoring System (ILMS) in Bangalore. The workshop facilitated in bringing about a comprehensive system that records holistic development of persons with disability, individuals, their family members and their community.

CBM exploring ILM System

CBM India in association with KROSS organised a two day workshop on Internal Learning and Monitoring System (ILMS) on 9th & 10th of December 2013 in Bangalore. ILMS is a self-assessment tool designed to record the data of Self Help Groups (SHG), members of the Community Based Organisations (CBO) their families and their community in order to provide insights into the living conditions of the members. In the year 2002, KROSS had developed ILMS to help SHG’s to monitor and access their progress. Even though the system has evolved over a period, the data and indicators captured through this tool are mainly focusing on economic and social aspects.

While studying the existing system closely, KROSS and CBM recognized the need to rethink about the tool and include appropriate components to access social development indicators related to gender, health care, disability, environment, etc.

Workshop on Internal Learning and Monitoring System (ILMS)

Forty six representatives from SHGs, CBOs, development professionals and social workers actively participated in the workshop. During the sessions, participants evaluated the existing ILMS and suggested necessary modifications required to make it more relevant with respect to the current requirements. They also explored ways to incorporate issues such as gender, health care, disability, environment and various other thematic areas. The role of partner organisations in the effective utilisation and outcome of ILMS in the past years was also evaluated.

The outcome

In the two days’ workshop, CBM and other stakeholders gained a clear understanding and explored the pros and cons of the existing ILMS tool. CBM in collaboration with partners will work on a comprehensive Internal Learning and Monitoring System (ILMS) that could document holistic development of persons with disabilities, individuals, their family members and the community in the coming year.
