National Consultation on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Development Process

CBM India and United Nations Solution Exchange (UNSE) for Gender Community organised a national consultation on ‘Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Development Process’ on February 12, 2014, as a part of a knowledge partnership to create discussion, insight and policy recommendation for inclusion of disability in development practice. Challenged but Not Defeated

Review of Government Flagship Programme
An action group was formed by United Nations Solution Exchange (UNSE) and CBM for developing knowledge products on disability inclusion for influencing practitioners and policymakers.As a part of this endeavour, a review of the thirteen government flagship programmes was done to find missing links or gaps and recommendations are were developed for addressing them and improving implementation. Compendium of Central and State Schemes
A matrix of national and state government schemes for persons with disabilities has been developed by an action group formed by United Nations Solution Exchange (UNSE) and CBM. The information in the matrix has been collected from states commissioner’s office, principal secretaries with the support of National Trust, the Office of State disability commissioner and local CBM Partners and other NGO’s. The Directory of Assistive Devices and Technology

Through ‘The Directory on Assistive Devices and Technology’, CBM has attempted to list products and assistive technologies available in India. This was developed in association with Department of Disability Affairs, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. The directory provides information about 687 products and contact details of 92 manufacturers and suppliers. CAHD Resource Material development and disability

With the aim to raise awareness for the need of mainstreaming disability issues in all spheres of international development work, the CBM supported CAHD office in New Delhi, India, has compiled a new publication titled "Disability in Development – Experiences in Inclusive Practices". 

The document – a joint cooperation of CBM with Handicap International – summarises lessons learnt within seven pilot projects applying CAHD in Bangladesh, Nepal, India and the Philippines. The projects were supported by CBM and HI and implemented by partner organisations in the countries. The aim of the publication is to illustrate successful inclusive practices, implemented in the communities throughout these projects, and discuss positive impacts on quality of life.

The Guidelines for Comprehensive Management of Low Vision

The Guidelines for Comprehensive Management of Low Vision in India is a manual  for professionals, institutions, and development organisations. This manual provides information on low vision, its causes, assessment methodologies and rehabilitation services to those affected by low vision. It also covers aspects of rehabilitation and the use of assistive devices. This manual also provides guidelines, outlining minimum standards for providing services at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

Voicing Concerns through Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs)

CBM and Sightsavers initiated a research on the roles of DPOs in India in advocating for the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities.  The study, as a resource for policy makers and persons with disabilities alike, was published in 2012 - Voicing Concerns
