National Para Badminton Championship

On May 6th and May 7th, 2015, Bangalore hosted ‘Rotary Bangalore South Open National Para Badminton Championship.’ Games were organised for persons using wheelchair and persons with dwarfism. The tournament also facilitated selecting the Indian team for wheelchair men & women and a dwarf section for forthcoming “Irish International Para Badminton 2015, in June, Dublin, Ireland.”

National Para Badminton Championship

CBM is proud to be associated with the ‘National Para Wheelchair Badminton Championship’, an opportunity to showcase the strengths, skills and sportsman spirit of people with disabilities. Forty eight members including coaches from 16 states of India took part in the championship. The two-day event was organised by ‘Karnataka para badminton association’ under the agies of ‘Badminton Sports Association of India for Challenged’ with the support of ‘Rotary Bangalore South’. The championship was conducted in Dr. Amdedkar Stadium, Bangalore.

In CBM, we firmly believe sports bring about social inclusion. It helps in acquiring social skills and also assists individuals in effective communication, building self-confidence, self-esteem, co-operation and goal setting. Sports enable the person to take part and learn how to manage failure and success in a safe and supportive environment, which increases motivation and independence. 

CBM was proud to be part of this event as a sponsor and appreciates the commitment and achievements of each and every participant and their coaches. We also thank the organisers for providing such a wonderful platform for persons with disabilities to showcase their talents.

Wheelchair championship

Mr. Suresh Kumar Karki from Maharashtra won Wheelchair men's single paraplegic finals. Wheelchair women's single for paraplegic finals was won by Kartiki Patel from Maharashtra. Wheelchair (WH 1 + WH 2) men's doubles paraplegic was won by Suresh Kumar Karki (Maharashtra) & Sanjeev Kumar (Punjab). In wheelchair II men's single finals was won by Sanjeev Kumar (Punjab). Mixed Doubles: under wheelchair category (WH1 + WH2) finals were won by Prem Kumar Ale (Maharashtra) and Kartiki Patel (Maharashtra).

Championship for person with dwarfism

Persons with dwarfism (SS6) Men's Single the finals was won by Tarzan (Manipur) by defeating Rajanna C V in straight sets of 21 - 04, 21 – 07. Under Men's doubles finals, Tarzan N and Gautamsingh (Manipur) defeated Renu Kumar and Rajanna (Karnataka) in straight sets of 21 -11, 21 -14. There were no female participants under for person with dwarfism which was disturbing.

The culmination event was inaugurated by Rtn. Manjunath Shetty M, District Governor; RI Dist 3190, presided by Sri K. S. Rajanna, State Commissioner Persons With Disabilities Act. Sri J. Chandrashekar, Secretary General, Paralympic Committee of India and Dr. Jitendra Shetty, Deputy Director, Administration & Sports Authority of Karnataka were also present on the occasion and distributed the prizes to the winners.

On the occasion Rtn. Manjunath Shetty and Sri K. S. Rajanna presented an Award of Honour to CBM India by awarding a memento as a token of appreciation for our support to the sports initiatives for people with disabilities.
