International Ear and Hearing Care Day 2015

The International Ear and Hearing Care Day is celebrated annually on March 3. The aim of the day is to raise the awareness of the general public about hearing loss and ear disease, and offer various possibilities for prevention through appropriate ear care.


  • 1.1 million Youths worldwide are at risk of hearing loss due to unsafe listening practices.  
  • Over 43 million people 12-35 live with disabling hearing loss
  • Approx. 20% of the world adult population has some degree of hearing loss.
  • Over 7.7 million persons in the world are profoundly deaf

Indian scenario

As per the 2011 census India is home for 5 million persons with hearing impairment. As per WHO 2011 estimates, India is among the countries that have the highest prevalence of disabling hearing loss, that is 6.14% to 7.58% of the total population.

CBM’s work in ear and hearing care

CBM is committed to improving the quality of life of persons living with, or at risk of, hearing loss and ear diseases, by acting at all levels of intervention: prevention, early identification, early intervention, rehabilitation (or habilitation for the persons with congenital hearing disability) and inclusion

Theme for International Ear and Hearing Care Day 2015

This year, the theme chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the celebration of the International Ear Care Day is “Make Listening safe”. This initiative, promoted and supported by organisations like CBM, aims to address the lack of awareness regarding the possibilities for prevention of hearing loss induced by exposure to excessive noise, through the changing of lifestyle and the adoption of simple ear care measures
